Gender binary

A system of social ideas and beliefs that assumes the existence of only two sexes, male and female, which are seen as fundamentally distinct and “opposite,” and to which corresponding genders are rigidly tied, along with the social norms that often accompany them (what a woman and a man should be and how they should behave in society).
