Family Forum

05.03.2020 Campaigns

The Modern Family Forum was organized by Insight NGO with the support of the British Embassy in Ukraine

It took place online on March 28, 2020, streamed to the Insight NGO Facebook page.

What exactly is this forum about, and why does it matter to talk about modern families in Ukraine?

Whenever “traditional values” come up, the question of the traditional Ukrainian family inevitably follows. But what is that family? What does the Ukrainian family look like today? What challenges do all these different families face, what do they look like, and what do they strive for?

We talked about the newest Ukrainian families, which are often invisible and discriminated against in legal, cultural, social, and economic contexts

At the forum we spoke about the families that most often fall outside the frame of the “traditional family”:

  • families that include people with disabilities
  • modern Roma families
  • LGBTQI+ families
  • and about the whole diversity of families living in Ukraine today
