On  March 19-20, 2016  Insight public organization scheduled an «Equality festival: Lviv-2016» (as a part of the annual «Equality festival» set of activities ), hosted at cutural space “Museum of ideas” (Valova str. 18A, Lviv, Ukraine).

Insight public organization has already organized the «Equality festival`s» events in Kiev on December 2015, supported by the Coalition against discrimination in Ukraine and Ombudsperson`s office.

The main purpose of the festival – to promote the ideas of tolerance, equality and anti-discrimination towards social groups, vulnerable to intolerance and violence: ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people), migrants, internally displaced persons, homeless people.

On Fabruary 25, 2016  we sent a letter to the Lviv Mayor Andrij Sadovyj, asking for official support of the festival and inviting him to participate in the official opening. Despite the fact that this letter was received on Fabruary 29 , we haven`t got any answer yet.

Today the  administration of «Museum of ideas» informed us, that they refusing our agreement and now they are unable to host “Equality festival Lviv-2016” because of anounimous threats to commit physical violence and property destruction. «Museum of ideas» administration also have noticed on lack of mayor`s support.

Also, please, pay attention to the hate speech of the Deputy head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional branch of  right-wing party “Svoboda”  Tokovenko Igor, regarding the “Equality festival Lviv-2016” and it`s organizers. Hate message was published at his personal facebook page: (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008389240462)  under the title “Gay parade in the city of  Lion”.

Taking into account, that the “Equality Festival” is a cultural event aimed to fight all  forms of discrimination – it is really important for promoting the ideas of tolerance and non-discrimination of people regardless of any grounds.

Based from the above, we asking for the support of everyone for whom human rights are important values, and who want to resist aggressive xenophobia in Ukraine.
